Zak Sandler is currently Music Directing and Conducting A SECOND CHANCE, which runs at Signature Theatre in DC November 14th-December 11th. This season in NYC, he Conducted/DJ'd and Music Directed the new electromusical, CAMP WANATACHI, and Vocal Directed THE OHMIES at the Darryl Roth. He also Music Directed SNOW WHITE, ROSE RED (AND FRED) at the Kennedy Center, Conducted BAND GEEKS! at Goodspeed (MD David Loud), and Music Directed WHO'S YOUR BAGHDADDY in the DC Fringe Festival. In 2010, he re-orchestrated, conducted and played SWEENEY TODD at Signature Theatre, winner of the 2009 Regional Theatre Tony Award. Other NYC credits include VOTE FOR ME and PLAGUED at the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) and concerts at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, Ars Nova, the D-Lounge and the Duplex. He was Associate Conductor/Assistant Music Director for the 2008-2009 season at Signature Theatre, where he was Piano/Conductor for SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE, Music Director for THE HOLLOW, Associate Conductor/Keyboard 1 for LES MISERABLES (2009 Helen Hayes for Best Musical), and Pianist for world premiers of ACE and GIANT. At the Kennedy Center, Zak was rehearsal pianist for BROADWAY: THREE GENERATIONS (dir. Lonny Price). Upcoming: TRIASSIC PARQ, coming soon to Off-Broadway.

Zak is also a composer in BMI’s Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writing Workshop (Advanced). His newest collaboration with Greg Edwards is an original piece called SPLIT DECISION, which follows the parallel lives of Daniel, a short story author who decides to remain in NYC and nurture a developing relationship, and Danny, the same short story author who decides instead to leave his lover to pursue a career in Hollywood. Zak received the Shen Prize for Musical Theatre Composition from Yale in 2006, and the Fenno Heath Award for writing a new Yale song, now included in the official Yale Songbook. At age thirteen, his “Crooked Key Symphony” won the Friday Morning Music Club’s Neva Greenwood Composition Competition, and was performed live by the Mount Vernon Youth Orchestra. His work has also been presented in New York City at Joe's Pub, the Laurie Beechman Theatre, and the Donnell Library Center.
